Torino, the region and province capital, is one of the main cities in Italy and it extends on the left from the high flow of the river Po. Elegant and refined, Turin matches harmoniously the strict geometry of its urban lay-out with the sophisticated architecture, one moment baroque, then of the eighteenth century, of its buildings. Among its main monuments we recall the "Mole Antonelliana", the Royal Palace, the "Porte Palatine", the Basilica of Superga, the "Palazzo Madama" and the the Palace of Carignano. Turin, ever since known as the "lounge city", seems to be made for walking quietly along streets and squares, admiring, in the old city centre, its various, ancient and elegant restaurants and cafés maintained with great care. Furthermore, Turin, with its numerous parks and gardens, its long boulevards, its green areas along the Po and along its three tributaries (Dora Riparia, Stura e Sangone), is one of the greenest towns in Italy. And the great Po, which flows quietly between its high banks, offers here and there some enchanting views. Turin, due to its very long past, can offer almost everything: history, art, music, nature and haute cuisine. Besides, at a distance of a little more than one hour from the town, one can reach the seaside or to the high mountain, the hills and marvellous lakes.
