Canavese still belongs to the province of Turin but is like a world unto itself.

Land of rolling hills and fertile plains, lakes and castles, high peaks and natural parks, the Canavese is located north of the capital. Its most important center is Ivrea, a city of Celtic origin known for its historical carnival where the characteristic battle of oranges is takes place.

A short distance away, the village of Agliè, an ancient medieval village with the baroque church of Santa Marta and the Ducal Castle, list of UNESCO World Heritage since 1997.
In Valperga there is the Sacro Monte of Belmonte, which offers a terrific view of the Canavese area and the Turin hills.

The area of Caluso and lake of Candia is wellknown for Erbaluce wines. It is here that one of the few DOCG white wines of the Italian peninsula is produced. Not far from there, the lake of Viverone, the third largest lake in Piedmont.

If you love long walks, trekking, or you like to admire the view from the snowy mountains and ski in picturesque places, you cannot miss the Graian Alps with the nearby valleys of Lanzo, Susa valley and Gran Paradiso National Park.
